Reducing UK Inheritance Tax for UK Resident and Domiciles
With the introduction of penalties to establishing interest in possession trusts in the 2006 Finance Act it has become extremely difficult for UK domiciles to mitigate their exposure to inheritance tax.
There are still a number of possibilities however due to the complexity of the structuring the expense has increased since the days when trusts could be used. Some example ideas would be:
- The use of partnerships in perpetuity
- Assigning certain share classes of companies to children but retaining as much control as possible
- Use of Business Property Relief
- Using different share issues on business property
Marlborough Trust run a number of the above arrangements and for further information please contact us.
